Development of Bicarbonate Electrolyzer for CO2 Conversion to Formate, K. NOMOTO, T. OKAZAKI, F. AMANO
Electrochemical CO2 reduction reactions are attracting attention to achieve carbon neutrality. In this study, we aimed at highly efficient formate synthesis using an aqueous bicarbonate, which is equivalent to an alkaline CO2 capture solution, as a feedstock instead of CO2 gas. By optimizing the configuration of the bicarbonate electrolyzer, we achieved Faradaic efficiencies for formate higher than 90% at a current density of 100 mA/cm2.
